Privacy notice

We keep this simple. Otterly Colorful collects as little as possible and never sells your data.
Newsletter
If you join our newsletter, we store:
- your email address,
- where you signed up (for example the website footer or the gift page),
- the country your connection came from, as reported by our hosting provider,
- the date and the consent text you agreed to.
We use this only to send you occasional emails about new books and free pages. The data is stored in a database at Cloudflare, our hosting provider. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any of our emails or writing to hello@otterlycolorful.com, and we will delete your address.
Buying on Amazon
Our “Buy on Amazon” buttons send you to Amazon. To choose the right Amazon store, our server looks at the country your connection comes from. We don’t store it. If you pick a store yourself, the choice is remembered in your browser’s local storage on this device only. Purchases are handled entirely by Amazon under Amazon’s privacy notice.
Cookies and analytics
Anonymous page counts
When our server delivers a page, it adds one to a daily counter for that page. The counter keeps only the page address, the date, whether you arrived from another site or moved within ours, the campaign tags in the link (such as utm_source=pinterest), the name of the site that linked to us, and your country as reported by our hosting provider. When you move to another page within the site, your browser tells our server which page you opened so it can be counted the same way. We don’t keep your IP address, browser details or any identifier, and no cookies or storage are used, so the counts cannot be linked to you. We do this based on our legitimate interest in knowing which pages and campaigns work (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The counts are stored at Cloudflare.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful and how visitors find us (for example from Pinterest or our newsletter). If you visit from the EU, the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, or we can’t tell where you are, it runs only if you choose “Allow analytics” in the cookie banner. Until then, and if you choose “No thanks”, the analytics script is not loaded and no analytics cookies are set. Elsewhere, Google Analytics runs by default, and you can switch it off under “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
If you allow analytics:
- Google Analytics sets the cookies
_gaand_ga_<ID>, which keep a random visitor ID for up to 13 months. - It records the pages you view, how you arrived (referring site and campaign tags in the link), your approximate location (country and city derived from your IP address, which Google Analytics 4 does not store), and your device type, browser and screen size.
- Where we ask first, our legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Advertising features and Google signals are switched off.
- The service is provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, acting as our processor. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States, which is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. See Google’s privacy information for business.
- Analytics data is kept for 14 months and then deleted automatically.
You can withdraw your consent at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page; we then stop Google Analytics and delete its cookies from your browser.
We also store your cookie choice, and your Amazon store choice if you make one, in your browser’s local storage. These are needed for the site to remember what you asked for and are not used for tracking.
Your rights
You can ask us what data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or withdraw your consent at any time. Write to hello@otterlycolorful.com.
